Overhead water tank waterproofing
A leaking overhead tank wastes water and keeps the slab and walls under it permanently wet, which in time damages the concrete and the steel inside it. Sealing the tank is cheaper than repairing the slab later.
Signs you need it
- Wet patches or stains on the walls and slab below the tank
- Water marks running down the outside of the tank
- Tank level that drops with no one using water
- Algae and dampness at the base of the tank
- Rust stains or flaking concrete near the tank
Common causes
- Hairline cracks in the tank walls and floor
- Failed joints at inlet, outlet and overflow pipes
- Old internal coating that has worn out
- Settlement or movement at the base
How we do it
- Empty and clean the tank
- Repair cracks and seal pipe joints
- Apply the waterproofing coats suited to potable-water tanks
- Cure, refill and check for seepage
